reTORT Optimization Wizard •	Wavefront error optimization Seidel aberration calculation

On Tuesday, January 7th, E x H released it’s most recent version of reTORT ray tracer to all current licensees. Free trials are available on request. Dramatic price reductions for education use.

Some of the improvements included are highlighted below.

Optimization Wizard Improvements

As a reminder, the wizards are easy to use methods to both specify your design as well as the output of results.

The newest release adds:

  • Wavefront error optimization, already supported in reTORT, is now selectable in the optimization wizard. This is in addition to selecting spot size optimization.
  • You can limit the thickness of lenses, air gaps and lens edges. For example, you can put upper or lower bounds on any of these features. You will find this important in more quickly arriving at a manufacturable lens design.
  • You can configure pickups with an new intuitive interface. Thus, you can copy a surface or the inverse of the surface easily to the opposite side. Thus, it is even easier if you wish to make a shape perfectly symmetric.
  • Generally, we’ve allowed for greater flexibility when setting up optimizations.

Other Improvements

In addition to minor bug fixes and speed increases, we’ve made a few other changes of note.

  • You can access tables that show per-surface ray intercept data. This, then, includes angles and ray-heights.
  • You may display five monochromatic Seidel aberrations on a per-surface basis.
  • Continuous improvements were made to our GEMSIF context help.

About Our reTORT Ray Tracer

reTORT is our geometric-optics ray tracer which has also proven itself in the high-frequency RF spectrum. Our ray tracer was built from scratch with the latest software technologies. It models and optimizes the most complex systems you can imagine.

Ours is not a traditional ray tracer. It was not first built for homogeneous lenses and later adapted for the newest design methods. We designed reTORT from the ground up to employ the latest technologies.

Thus, gradient index and metasurface features are easily defined within reTORT itself. We built it from the ground up to design, run simulations and optimize the most complex systems you can imagine.

About GEMSIF

And with any solver, you automatically receive GEMSIF. GEMSIF is our GEometry, Modeling, and Simulation InterFace. It is the computational framework that ties together all of our solvers.

GEMSIF is our common platform through which you’ll perform optimizations. Much of the computational support is provided by GEMSIF. And, finally, GEMSIF is the tool through which you’ll render your designs.

Our GEMSIF framework is tremendously flexible and powerful. It’s unique in computational physics and electromagnetic simulation.
